'There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens..' (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
If you explore this website you will read of the many recording projects, tours, collaborations, solo projects and varied musical experiences that I have been privileged to be a part of over many years. Most of my focus and my passion these days is concentrated on my tuition work here in Norfolk but I am always grateful for the occasional playing or recording activity!
In October 2016 I returned to Holland for a short tour with Adrian Snell. The purpose of the tour was to record a live presentation of 'Alpha & Omega' which was originally recorded in 1986! Back then I was invited to record Saxophone & Flute solos and embellishments for this significant new work. What followed were many tours and concerts all over Europe and in Israel, the last being in Switzerland in 2007. As you can imagine meeting up with Adrian & Dave Bainbridge again was truly special and as we commenced rehearsals (with musicians, singers and a large choir from Holland) it was clear to us all that this work remains as powerful and as moving as ever it was - in fact, in the light of what is unfolding across this troubled world today, even more so.
At present the recordings are being mixed and edited (by Dave Bainbridge & Nigel Palmer) and the '30th Anniversary' live edition of 'Alpha & Omega' will shortly be released. There is another tour planned for September 2017, again in Holland and plans are being made for a longer tour here in UK in 2018.
During 2015 & 2016 I was again invited to play a number of concerts and worship events with Graham Kendrick. I have recorded, toured and worked with Graham since the early 1980's and always appreciate greatly the projects and concert/worship events that I have been invited to join Graham (and his excellent team) for. Two key events during that time were at the Wokingham Summer Music Festival (13th-21st June 2015) and a concert at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds (12th November 2015). In May 2016 we gave a concert at the 'Cheese & Grain' in Frome, Somerset. These were part of Graham's 'Acoustic Tour' (with my good friend & long term collaborator Terl Bryant on percussion).
It was good to spend a few days in London during 2016 recording once again for Godfrey Rust (poet, musician & song writer) and his very gifted son Sam (musician, composer & producer). I look forward to hearing the final mix of this new project. You might remember Godfrey from the duo 'Shattock & Rust'.
Last October (28th & 29th) I returned to the Emmanuel Centre in London with Barry & Batya Segal (Israel) & the worship band Moriah for another Sukkot ('Feast Of Tabernacles 2014') celebration. I have recorded a number of prjects with Barry & Batya the last of which is based upon the theme of 'Shabbat' (the Jewish Sabbath) and is entitled 'Day 7'. This has been excellently produced by Dave Bainbridge, who also plays all keys & gtrs on the album. This is now released. Dave Bainbridge & I have once again re-united for a beautiful new project (our second partnership as a duo) entitled 'Life Journey'. This recording is inspired by the book, writings & artwork of Mary Fleeson. Each piece on this CD has its own identity, presence & atmosphere - a sound reflection of each specific theme & work of art that we have sought to express or interpret from Mary's uniquely beautiful artwork. For more on this project do please visit: www.life-journey-cd.com.
During 2014 I recorded a new project with Roger Mayor for his new CD called 'Unfinished Journey'. This has been a very significant project and I feel privileged to have been invited by Roger to contribute to what he has described as an 'intensely personal musical memoir'. Please do visit Roger's website to discover more of Roger's music and also life journey: www.rogermayor.com
During 2014 I played short series of concerts across the UK with Graham Kendrick. We played two late night concerts at Spring Harvest (in Minehead and Skegness) and then went on to join Philippa Hanna for the 'Storytellers Tour' which was put together by Spilt Milk Bookings and Compassion UK. It was good to spend time with Graham once again and also Simon Dennis (bassist extraordinaire and one time member of the 1970's 'Meet Jesus Music' band). The first venue of the tour was at Canterbury Baptist Church, where our son Andrew Fitzgerald was the Associate Minister, Worship Leader and Youth Worker following his graduation at Canterbury Christ Church University. Since being ordained, following three years of study at Spurgeon's College, London, Andrew was apppointed the Minister of CBC in Leicester and in 2015 returned to Canterbury Baptist Church as their Senior Minister.
As you can imagine, returning to Canterbury with Graham was truly significant was something of a homecoming for my wife Carolyn and me - as we lived their with our two very young children during the 1980's (and Carolyn grew up in Kent).
